Are you curious about chemical peels, but have been reluctant to try one? Well, don’t be! Chemical peels are a form of exfoliation that uses a chemical solution to penetrate the skin to remove the top layers and regenerate new skin. The peeling process stimulates collagen and increases cellular turnover. The dead skin cells slough off, revealing new, healthy, glowing skin.
Benefits of a Chemical Peel:
-Improved skin tone and texture
-Plump and firm skin
-Improved skin discoloration
-Treatment of hyperpigmentation and acne scarring
-Smoothed appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
-Enhanced skin clarity and radiance
Before your chemical peel appointment, it is important to stop using any at-home exfoliants (i.e. retinol, daily peel pads, and glycolic/salicylic acids). The treatment takes about 30 minutes. The peeling process begins approximately 48 hours post-treatment. It can take up to one week for the peeling process to be completed. Not everyone will have visible skin shedding after a peel. The actual “peeling” is a side effect, not an indicator of the final result. After a chemical peel, it is important to stay out of the sun. The skin will be more sensitive to sun exposure and may burn, so be sure to apply an SPF 30, or above, daily. A series of 3-4 chemical peels, spaced every 4-6 weeks, is recommended to improve the overall appearance of your skin.
