Learn How to Treat Your Rosacea!

April is designated as Rosacea Awareness Month.

Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels on the face. Rosacea affects 16 million Americans, yet only a small portion of the population seeks treatment for it. In honor of Rosacea Awareness Month, we are informing patients about the causes, symptoms, and treatment options of this widespread condition.

Rosacea can affect anyone, but it generally shows up in women over age 30, and in individuals with fair skin. Common symptoms include, flushing or redness across the cheeks and nose, that waxes and wanes, and visible blood vessels on the face.

Symptoms will worsen over time, if left untreated. Severe cases include eye irritation (swelling and watering), acneic skin, and worsening redness. Swelling of the nose, rhinophyma, is more common in men than women.

Triggers of Rosacea flare-ups include dairy, spicy foods, alcohol, and hot drinks. Other common factors are stress and temperature-related conditions (saunas, hot baths, and overheating).

Unfortunately, there is no cure for Rosacea. There is only symptom management. At Miami Beach Laser & Aesthetics, we offer two excellent treatment options for Rosacea; the Cutera excel V and the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacial. Both treatments are very effective in treating these symptoms and rejuvenating the skin. The excel V is the new gold standard for safely and effectively treating vascular concerns, such as Rosacea. The excel V utilizes a 532nm wavelength. IPL is a laser light treatment that uses high-intensity light to penetrate below the skin’s surface to disperse uneven red pigment.

Rosacea symptoms and severity vary from person to person, so it is important to be evaluated to see if you are a good candidate for laser treatments.
