You might have noticed a treatment trending online called the “lip flip.” What exactly is a lip flip and how does it differ from lip filler? Read on to find out!
Lip Flip
A lip flip is performed using Botox, while lip filler is performed using dermal filler. A lip flip is a quick, minimally invasive treatment where Botox is injected into the orbicularis oris muscle (the upper part of your top lip), allowing your upper lip to relax and flip outward, creating the appearance of fuller lips. Botox for a lip flip treats a “gummy smile,” as it reduces the amount of gum shown when you smile. The treatment typically lasts only 2-3 months, but there is no downtime. Results occur within 2-10 days. A lip flip is less expensive than lip filler, as you need only 4-6 units of Botox for the treatment.
Lip Filler
Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler injected into the lips to increase the volume, making them fuller and plumper. Before lip filler, a topical anesthetic is applied to the lips to help with any pain or discomfort. It is a great treatment if you want to add more fullness, enhance the shape of your lip, or smooth out vertical lip lines, and results can last 6 months or more. Swelling and/or bruising may occur after treatment and allow one to two weeks for final results.
